How to operate a tipper semi trailers?- Common problems and solutions

When the semi tipper trailer unloads the cargo, taking shortcuts without following established safety procedures may have serious consequences. Each operator of such equipment should keep the following recommendations in mind to minimize risks and ensure the safety of operators and other personnel, as well as prevent serious damage and injury.

Common problems and solutions

Semi tipper trailers are suitable for the transportation of bulk and bulk goods such as coal, ore and building materials. Semi tipper trailers can be divided into two categories according to their uses: One category is heavy-duty and super-heavy dump trucks used for off-road transportation. They are mainly responsible for large-scale mining and engineering transportation tasks, and are usually used in conjunction with excavators. Another type of dump trailer, medium, and ordinary dump trucks for road transportation is mainly responsible for the transportation of loose goods such as sand, gravel, coal, etc. It is usually used with a loader.

Q1. The dump truck can’t lift?

A: The following parts should be investigated for the dump truck without lifting. Check the power take-off: first see if the drive shaft connected to the oil pump rotates, if it does not turn, it means that there is a problem with this part of the power take-off (the solenoid valve of the power take-off or the power take-off itself has a problem);

Check the oil pump: ① Whether the rotation direction of the oil pump is correct. Extend the left hand, the thumb is facing the spline of the oil pump, and the rotation direction of the remaining fingers is the same, it is the left-handed pump, otherwise it is the right-handed pump. ②Whether the oil pump is damaged. Wear of the oil pump will cause the high and low pressure chambers of the oil pump to communicate and fail to pump oil.

Check the distribution valve: ① Check whether there is gas in the air pipe on the distribution valve. Press the lifting and lowering switches to check whether there is air in the two trachea on the distribution valve. If there is no gas, it means that the solenoid valve that controls the lifting and lowering has failed, and the solenoid valve should be replaced. ② Is the distribution valve damaged?

Q2: What is the reason for insufficient braking force and reduced braking efficiency?

A: Insufficient air pressure (air pressure type), the oil level of the oil reservoir is too low (hydraulic type). The pedal free travel is too large. The control valve die is broken or depressed (air pressure type), and the master cylinder piston cup leaks oil (hydraulic type).

The brake air chamber is touched or damaged (air pressure type), and the wheel cylinder piston cup leaks oil (hydraulic type). Poor sealing of the exhaust valve of the control valve (air pressure type). The pipe joint is loose or the pipe is broken, leaking gas or oil. Improper adjustment of the brake shoe and brake gap, oil or dirt on the shoe skin.

Q3. What are the important hydraulic components of the hydraulic lifting system and what role do they play?

Answer: Oil pump-oil supply; one-way valve-controls the flow of oil; distribution valve (rotary valve)-controls the lifting and lowering of the rear tipping trailer; oil cylinder-generates thrust.

Q4. How to solve the climbing problem in the lifting process?

Answer: Sometimes during the lift of the car, the phenomenon of climbing will occur. This phenomenon is mostly caused by the intake air in the hydraulic system and the oil cylinder filled with the mixture of oil and gas.

Q5. Why does the semi tipper trailer go down when the instrument panel’s lift switch is pressed; and when the instrument panel’s down switch is pressed, the semi tipper trailers lifts?

A: This is caused by the reverse connection of the solenoid valve that controls the lifting and lowering.  There are three ways to eliminate: ① swap the wires of the lifting and lowering switches on the instrument panel; ② swap the wires of the solenoid valve that controls the lifting and lowering; ③ swap the two air pipes of the distribution valve.

Basic knowledge of semi tipper trailers maintenance

1. Check the hydraulic oil for discoloration or deterioration every week. If there is any discoloration or deterioration, replace the hydraulic oil in time. Change the oil according to different regions and seasons. Generally, it is more appropriate to change the oil in April and October. When you find that the fuel is insufficient, you should add it in time.

2. A minor problem in the end dump trailer should be resolved quickly.

3. Frequent scrubbing, pay attention when driving, keep the car clean and hygienic. It is best to put some air freshener.

4. If you use a car such as ore, it is recommended that you weld 10 kg of iron in the car compartment. This will protect your car from being crushed and deformed.

5. Don’t leave it outside on snowy days. It’s better to put it in an air-conditioned garage. Do more maintenance every month.

6. It is recommended to always butter the truck when the dump truck is not needed, especially the hydraulic cylinder should be beaten frequently.
